This course is designed for the entry-level instrumentation mechanic or experienced electrician who needs to understand the basics of industrial process measurement. With a focus upon OSHA compliance, the student will be introduced to process measurement with the understanding that the individual must be a qualified person to be able work on the equipment. With that in mind the person will learn about the construction, operation, and how to avoid the hazards associated with both pneumatic and electronic process measurement devices. At the conclusion of the course the participant should be able to: determine the manipulated variable, controlled variable, and measured variable given a description of various typical industrial processes, convert a pressure, level, flow, or temperature process variable value into the appropriate pneumatic or electrical value given different types of instrument, identify the electrical variable that is either directly or inferentially used by various types of instruments and transmitters using ISA industrial consensus standard techniques.
